Correct spelling, explanation: this form is correct, because it is the third person singular of the verb play. To create such form we add -s to the end of the word. In this case the word ends with y preceded by a vowel, so we do not change nor add anything else; we simply add -s, so we receive the word plays. Playes is incorrect, because there is no need to add also e in between. Plays is the only correct form.
Definition of plays:
verb, third form singular of the verb play, to act (in a play, a film etc.); to do an activity for pleasure or sports
Sarah plays chess but Mary doesn’t.
Everybody in this film plays incredibly.
Incorrect spelling, explanation: this form is incorrect because there is no need to add e before adding s. Plays is the third person singular form of play, and we simple add s to the word to create such form. Therefore playes is incorrect and plays is the correct form.

Incorrect spelling, explanation: this form is a mistaken, because according to the rule, in case of a suffix -s added to y which stands after a vowel (here a), the suffix is simply added without changing anything in the spelling. Therefore plays is the corect form and playes is incorrect. There is no need to add this e between y and s. Plays is the correct spelling.
Correct spelling, explanation: plays is the correct spelling of this third person singular form of the verb play. This is due to the fact, that when -s is added to a word which ends with y, and this y is preceded by a vowel, then s is simply added at the end of the word. Nothing else changes in the spelling. Therefore the correct spelling is plays, not playes.

О согласовании подлежащего и сказуемого в настоящем неопределенном времени
Запомните ПРАВИЛО:
В настоящем неопределенном времени (the Present Indefinite Tense), которое также называют простым (Simple) настоящим временем, смысловой глагол во всех лицах имеет форму, совпадающую с неопределенной формой, без частицы to кроме третьего лица единственного числа:
*** Особые случаи – модальные глаголы (не изменяются по лицу и числу) и
имеющие особые формы глаголы to be (формы am, is, are) и to have (формы have, has)
He doesn’t play.
Does she play?
*** Вспомогательный глагол do,
который используется для образования вопроса и отрицания,
имеет форму does.
Collins
