There is no such word as studing only studying. Because the word «Study» is a present continuous not a simple present. So trying to get rid of Y is not applicable.
Other example is «Play» you make it as «Playing.»

Maya has been studying English for two months, but she hasn’t learnt anything.

Фразовых глаголов, то есть глаголов с послелогом, на основе to study совсем мало, но они есть:

Стоит отметить, что слово study встречается в английском языке не только как глагол, но и как существительное со значениями «исследование, изучение», а также «кабинет».
